In this article, I discuss how it’s critically important to have professionals leading the way. I spotlight outstanding professionals in the applied sciences, formal sciences, humanities, natural sciences, and the social sciences. Yes, every area is essential.

Finding a career is no easy task. Before we even graduate high school, we face the looming question of “what will I be when I grow up?” and yet many continue to ponder it through their early adulthood and, for some, beyond. Nonetheless, becoming an outstanding professional takes two key attributes applicable to any field and accomplished by any person.

In this Dave4Math series, passion and education were proven to be the most essential pieces for professionals to grow in their fields.

To be passionate about work is often a foreign concept, but for those who become exemplars in their careers, it is the motivation and investment that shoots them to the top. Moreover, it is through this innate interest that professionals contribute most to their careers as well as their professions as a whole. While some have a spark of passion from a young age to go on and become a doctor, a teacher, an astronaut, or another career, others take a while to stumble upon their interest. Either way, passion in the field is essential to becoming a leader in it.

Completing a degree in a specific field opens the door to that area of study. Moreover, it helps students find the spark that inspires them to either continue studying in that arena or change course. As we become more interested in a field, we tend to want to learn more about it. This leads, for many, to multiple degrees, allowing professionals to further focus on intricate concepts.

From Outstanding Actuaries to Outstanding Teachers to Outstanding Space Scientists, our world continues to be transformed nearly every day. Whether these professionals are making ground-breaking discoveries, maintaining societal normality, or educating future generations, their work leaves its mark.
